WHAT THE HELL?!?!?!?
Well... Because I like them. The fact that they were cheap played into it a bit, though. In fact, since nobody wants an old station wagon, they were very cheap. I got both used, the combined total of the above cars was less than a new Kia Rio. No offense to those who own Rios, but the picture above consists of 9,200 pounds of pure steel. These cars are built to go the distance. The burgandy one has 188,000 miles and counting. Everything about the car is near perfect. In fact, the interior is absolutely showroom new. The dark grey-green one has 275,000 miles and counting. The paint is almost flawless. The interior is trashed, but that suits me fine. I'm a bit hard on car interiors anyhow. At any rate, these are body-on-full-perimiter-frame cars. After squeesing 211,000 miles out of an old Taurus, I just can't go for unibody, or worse yet, front wheel drive cars. To quote one of my favorite singer-songwriters:

TO MAKE MACHINES THAT ARE DISPOSABLE...-Ani Difranco
